Lastly, you wonder to the backyard and find that their two dogs have had their way with the back door and patio. Hair from the dogs shedding was all over the yard, droppings, claw marks in the deck, ripped screen door and even a chewed A/C unit. It doesn’t really matter because your dogs would have done the same thing. After being outside in the fresh air for a minute or two, you go back inside to make a final judgement on where this house stand on your list, and you’re hit with that smell again? You don’t figure it out and you write down a few notes about the house and you and your realtor move onto the next house.

That is a very common experience when looking at a house. I know, I know, you want me to tell you what the cause of the weird smell was right. It could have been many different things, but the smell of your home can give big clues as to the type of homeowner you are, and how well you maintain it.
