When you’re looking to revitalise the appearance of your home,  you will most likely find yourself struggling over the paint colour you should use . After what seems like a long time , you still may not have come to a decision and want to call in a professional for help. A great place to start looking for advice is from interior design professionals, architects and professional tradesmen such as painters. Architects, Interior designers and tradesmen, like painters for instance can be expensive, even if it is simply for a consultation, so if you can decide on the colours yourself. We know that this choice won’t be easy, so here is some advice that will make colour selection alot easier.

1: Get inspired by the world around you:  Mother Nature is filled with beautiful colours and inspiring views so take a look around your neighbourhood and borrow from the nature around you. This could mean a lot of different things, so remember to keep it fairly simple. For example, if you live by the Rocky Mountains in North America you may want to use a type of greyish hue or other colours to magnify the impact of those mountains off in the distance. Check out colour combinations from nature such as greens and browns  from trees and blues, greys and whites from mountains, the sky and ocean. These colours are very popular .

2: Inside your own home you will find many colour combination examples : Your home is filled with things you love, so why not take inspiration from there.  You have spent countless hours filling up your home with these things that make you comfortable inside those walls, so why not base your colour combinations on your furniture and choose colours that complement your personal taste. .

3: Understand colour groupings : Professional and artistic painters always look to use contrasting colours that work well together because they will emphasize the architectural beauty of a home . Take a look around at neighbours places, ask friends that have gotten professional help from tradesmen, or do some research on your own. Less can be more remember. Remember white is a great colour to use when in doubt as white offends less than other colours.

4: The use of to many colours can have a negative effect on your home : Too many colours will overwhelm your home and just using white and no colours at all  will make your house appear stark and flat. Try to find a comfortable balance between a few colours that work well together and emphasise the subtle beauty your house provides.

5: Honour Heritage : If you live in a traditional neighbourhood , you may want to honour the heritage  colour scheme that has been used. If this is the case, you should hire a painter to analyze the original colour and recreate a match for you .

Finally, don’t forget to respect your neighbours . The last thing you want to do is have a bright, multi-coloured home sticking out like a sore thumb on your street. You want your home to not draw to much negative attention but to still express your individuality.
