For the Love of Bubble Wrap!

Yes, there are so many uses for bubble wrap…Here at packupthehouse.com, we love to tell you about bubble wrap because of it’s many moving and packing uses. You can wrap up valuable-breakable items like dishes/china, pictures, knick-knacks, and the like. You can even use it as an extra cushion on a hard rental truck seat. But did you know that there is actually competitions in which you can win prizes on the creative use of bubble wrap? Yes, so very true – a little odd perhaps but true.

But being bubble wrap geeks ourselves, we had to take a few moments and give a salute to those who endeavor to give bubble wrap a household name – so that one day in the not so distant future, every household in America – yes, even the world will have as much bubble wrap on hand as they do toilet paper – oh what a great day that will be and oh so deserving of such a fine product like bubble wrap!! Semi-Finalists in the 2008 Bubble Wrap® Competition for Young Inventors

The 15 Semi-Finalists!!

Sealed Air is looking for America’s next great inventor. In cooperation with the National Museum of Education, we are pleased to sponsor the 2nd Annual Bubble Wrap® Competition for Young Inventors!

  • Who? – Students in grades 5-8.
  • How? – Demonstrate creativity and ingenuity by creating an invention that incorporates the use of Bubble Wrap® brand cushioning.
  • What? – Three finalists will win a three-day trip to New York City.
    • The Grand Prize winner will receive a $10,000 savings bond.
    • Second and third place winners will receive $5000 and $3000 respectively in savings bonds.
    • The teacher/mentor of each finalist will receive a $500 gift card.

Congratulations to all 15 semi-finalists for their great achievement! We had over 1400 entries to our second Bubble Wrap® competition. The three finalists will be announced in early January. Be sure to check back to see who will move on to the final round.

  • Kayla Weston, 11, Longwood, FL – “Dancing on Air” – Shock-absorbing flooring designed to minimize the wear and tear on dancers.
  • Dylan Curvey, 11, Middleton, MA – “Bubble Wrap® Car Door Cover” – A removable protective covering for the doors of parked cars.
  • Andy Boler, 9, Richardson, TX – “Bubble Wrap® Plant Shelter” – A light-weight, collapse-able shelter to protect outdoor plants from the winter cold.
  • Hannah Haas, 13, Charlotte, NC – “Sensory Wallpaper” – Wallpaper designed to engage and stimulate children with autism.
  • Manoah Burden, 11, Akron, OH – “DNA Model” – A three-dimensional model of a DNA double helix.
  • Grace Abernathy, 13, Noblesville, IN – “Lap Popper” – A pad designed for Alzheimer’s patients who find comfort from the sound and repetition of popping.
  • Nicolette Mann, 13, Christiansburg, VA – “Transformable Bubble Wrap® Kite” – A kit for constructing multiple types of flying kites.
  • Lauren Strickland, 10, San Angelo, TX – “Bubble Wrap® Cushy Wheelchair” – Cushions providing added comfort to wheelchair-bound individuals.
  • Elizabeth Rintels, 12, Keswick, VA – “The Bubble Bank” – A fun way for people to save, store and display coins.
  • Tanner Post, 12, Liberty, UT – “Safe T Wrap” – An all-in-one, multi-purpose home safety/first-aid kit.
  • McKenzie Iverson, 12, Lenexa, KS – “The Popping Servant” – Enables people who cannot speak to more easily communicate their basic needs to others.
  • James Gentry, 12, Federal Way, WA – “Medical Bubbles” – Tiny bubbles used to dispense medicine slowly through the skin and avoid the pain of needles.
  • Kelly Seaver, 13, New Canaan, CT – “Child’s First Counting Game” – A fun game designed to help children learn to count.
